Avoid this comment thread, will have spoilers! But I wanted to see what you guys thought about something odd we see in Jedi Survivor. Again SPOILERS in this thread!!!
Do you think Rayvis is actually dead? I have tried to make sense of what happens, given that all of the other lore is in agreement that just slicing his head shouldn't have killed him. All I can think of is that they feel like they die if they are cut through enough. Maybe they call it death, like it feels to them like a rebirth, as the stem cell like healing and regrouping of the strands of their body creates a new type of person. Like if a person suffered a major life change, or puberty, or brain trauma that creates a "new" type of person, but with a recollection of their life before the event. They just feel so different, they call it a rebirth, or the "old me is dead". Side note, I wouldn't be surprised if he is still alive and you can recruit him in the third game. What do you think?
I haven't fight Rayvis yet but I hope he survivor because he is now my New favorite character in star wars I hope we seen him again
@@MetaNerdzLore he will come back. He can’t have died that easily given what we know about his species
I just read up on the species. If they managed to kill his brain since it's the ONE part that can't regenerate. Maybe they managed to destroy it.
So wait durge is canon now and he is shown to be in the imperial past the clone wars so I believe he was almost killed by Anakin but since that was a bloody battle there must have been enough to regrow into a new durge because it has shown back in 2003 clone wars series when his body explode into pieces combine back into the original mass so I believe when it try reform the cells realize that original durge was dead so it use genetic memory to make another durge a clone possiblely fixing durge mental disease because when he was with Dr afra he seemed less violent and insane.
Gen’Dai, one of the most craziest alien species in the Star Wars universe that’re officially canon thanks to Rayvis from Jedi Survivor. Hell, Durge was brought back to canon thanks to the Doctor Aphra comics, only to be recently identified as a Gen’Dai and a veteran of the Clone Wars. 👍🏻
yeah true, forgot to mention that but will do a Durge complete life one day
@@MetaNerdzLore please do! He’s one of my favorite characters due to how “over the top” he is. He was a character made for the sake of the “rule of cool”, and I still can’t get over the fact that he’s officially a canon character now. Seriously, I didn’t think Lucasfilm was gonna bring him back, but here we are!
I’m glad that his ties with the CIS has been added to canon
I don't think Survivor canonical or the reason they exist lol. Sorry but Disney doesn't make real SW lore and that game is sh!t lol.
@@shawnkenneth5503 Bro you can still enjoy the older canon of Star Wars, but saying any SW content made post Disney isn't real is just pure denial and obvious bias.
Gendai are basically Star Wars versions of Hunters from Halo
Agreed tbh, that is what I actually thought tbh
Except Gen'Dai won't die from one M6D magnum shot to the back.
Durge looks and feels like such a 90's creation in the best way possible. He doesn't really feel like he belongs in Star Wars, but that makes him more interesting
Crazy to think these guys were once peaceful. Also I am so glad Ravis and Durge are so dynamic of characters
Well if you are a long-lived species that has been through or witnessed enough atrocities, you will change and become more cynical and jaded. Staying peaceful and good gets harder and harder as time goes on unless you are willing to try and maintain a good and healthy mindset, which is especially difficult if you live long enough to witness the cycle of horrible things happening in the star wars galaxy throughout the centuries or millennia in the Gen'Dais' case.
@Jairaam007 "there are now wars everywhere, in this new galaxy, but no honor to be found"
Rayvis
When I heard the name from Dagan, I knew I had heard that name before, then I thought of how Durge was a Gen’Dai
I'll be straightly honest, when they introduced Ravis in the new Star Wars game, I had no idea of what he was after he was stabbed in the chest, or how he reattached his severed arm, until the late bounty hunter Durge from the Clone Wars popped into my head, I can't believe I forgot that type of species.
This species are so cool. I'm so glad a get a video about them.
Durge was one of the coolest characters in the Animated Clone Wars sieres.
I kinda wonder what an ion disrupter would do to a gen'dai now, given their regenerative abilities
Lol that would be crazy I love it
That’s an amazing point, but if it was not powerful enough, it probably would not do anything, but, if it was… amazing strategically, and not impossible to do.
@@OverHeed if 1 wouldn't be powerful enough, you could always just have a squad wielding disrupter rifles focus fire on a single gen'dai. Inefficient, for sure, but possibly the only way to take down a charging gen'dai
Disruptors might be one of the few anti-infantry weapons that would work to kill the Gen'dai. The only other one I can think of off the top of my head is The Dutchess on full power.
It might kill a normal one. Durge isn’t a normal one, so I don’t know about him.
The Gen’Dai and the Lasat are my top 2 favorite Star Wars intelligence species! I’m so glad to learn more about the Gen’Dai! They’re basically Star Wars’ version of a lovecraftian monster
Me: *Shoots a gendai after an argument.*
Gendai: There is no need to be upset.
I NEED a Gen’Dai force sensitive character. Omg their so damned devastating that just having one be force sensitive and trained in it, knowing it could push these capabilities further than their average race can, would be insane. Their lifespan lends to a perfect explanation to a mastery of the force as well if they possess it. So many years to get better at it in your own free time can make for interesting possibilities.
I imagine that there is likely a single force sensitive gendai in the whole galaxy and has lived for thousands of years.
What would be cool is if due to age possibly following the the old jeddai way, of balance between light and dark, life and death. somewhere fully isolated, with their nerve bundles spread accross a a large area in touch with many aspects of life on that planet and unaware of the passage of time and the changes of the galaxy, just fully emerged in the force and the way of perfect permanence and the cycles of life and death.
@@HovektheArtist that’s a good idea for a Gen’Dai of the light side. Though one of the darkside I’d imagine bonded himself to orbalisks, let them grow on his body, whilst molding his body to work with them, essentially making orbalisk organs that work as a whole with him in perfect symbiosis. They’d pump his body with chemicals to boost speed, strength, stamina, adrenaline and connection to the darkside by inflicting pain, which the Gen’Dai, over many years of life and hybernation has finally mastered a tolerance to them. The dark harmony at work creates what can easily shape itself in humanoid form, but can also widen and enlarge to titanic proportions in seconds. He’d be lightsaber resistant, able to bulldoze a fair bit of obstacles with his body alone with ease. You could argue with his biology, with (orbalisk boost/damage resistance/regeneration/darkside connection), he’d be masterfully trained and talented through the force in his own way, possibly using a darkside planet as his haven for hibernation and also a place to feed the orbalisk outside himself to train to his limits.
There was a force sensitive Gendai in legends. Might have been SWTOR
@@ProtatoFarmer69 I’ll have to check. I just know the potential has to be staggering.
@@Odinfangthere was one in legends called agrular in star Wars The Old Republic and not much is known and he was taken down and killed pretty fast from what I read on Star wars wiki
Channels like yours are the only thing keeping Star Wars alive.
Lmao
I remember the first time I stumbled upon the Gen'Dai was because I was curious about what race lived the longest. Then I became a fan due to their weird biology and Durge. Fun how such a deep cut species made it over to canon.
If Canon's Durge is 2,000 years old like Legends'. He will be alive until 2000 ABY to 5000 ABY.
One of my favorite species in Star Wars since I first saw Dirge in Samurai Jack Clone Wars as a kid. Interesting lore and great design, Gen’dai are awesome.
The gen'dai are one of my favorite species in star wars universe they are so cool i will love to be one of them thank you for finally doing a video of them your awesome
They are some of my favorite species. Its so sad that there homeworld was devastated for no real good reason. Despite how peaceful they were to everyone.
Hopefully we get to learn more about the species in current canon. Lets hope they still have a homeworld that isnt in ruin like another certain planet.
Durge has also shown up in the canon Doctor Alphra comics in the post Empire strikes back era. Though I have fallen behind on those so I can’t say too much about what’s been going on with him in there.
Currently writing a book with a Gen’Dai main character so I’m glad this is back in canon. The whole concept for the story came from the idea “what if a Gen’Dai was force sensitive” and it kind of unraveled from there. I didn’t want the character to be a Jedi, but being thousands of years old and having had their homeworld be destroyed by the sith, it’s inevitable. However because the species is philosophical I believe if they were a member of the Jedi order they would leave when the clone wars breaks out, becoming a bounty hunter and living out life until psychosis sets in.
Durge is canon now and he shows up in Doctor Aphra comics. He even almost made it to the Clone wars but the character of Bane was created instead
A thought I always have when I come across OP aliens like the Gen'Dai is that evolution does not select for stuff that is cool or "just because". Unless the Gen'dai were engineered at some point in their past either by themselves or an outside party then that means that something on their planet whether that be natural phenomenon or other lifeforms drove their evolutionary ancestors to become as brutally hardy and as unkillable as possible.
Tho another alternative is that at some point in their planet's evolutionary history some primordial life evolved to be a colonial bundle of regenerative omni functional nerve fibers with negligible senesce and this likely became the foundation of all higher order life on their planet.
But then that would mean that virtually all animals on the Gen'dai homeworld would be as insanely hard to kill as the Gen'dai.
in a Star Wars tabletop RPG, I ran a force sensitive bounty hunter Gen'Dai.
How strong was the character
Imagine a Jedi of this species, Order 66 would have no affect
lol dam that would be crazy
@@MetaNerdzLore crazy indeed
Well they can't be jedi because their species isn't force sensitive
@@YEY0806 Maybe not a full Gen'dai, but a half breed Gen'dai could be force sensitive.
@PSyKOnAR G I mean that is possible. However, the reason, probability, and well "method" for that to happen would be critically low
I've been a huge starwars nerd my entire life. I just realized that Durge and the guy from Swtor are the same species
I'm surprised so many people don't draw similarities between hunters in Halo and the Gen'dai. They're practically identical. Probably where Bunjie got the idea from. Or maybe the other way around more than likely.
Their really not.
Lekgolo are made up of thousands of independent entities, the Gen Dai are of the same creature coming from and returning to the central being. It's like comparing a Man to a nation.
I was sure that guy from survivor looked very similar to durge without his helmet but I wasn't sure. It was nice seeing this species again in mainline star wars content. Durge is my favorite non force user.
That little clip at 3:09 is something I JUST learned about
The different races in Star Wars were created by the Rakata after they lost their ability to use the force, they made an AI that could create life to try and learn more about the force and their loss of connection to it
They created what they call the "slave races" Twi'leks, Zabraks, Humans, Esh-Kha, they are SEVERAL races that they called "slave races"
Later they sent these races out to populate different planets in the galaxy
The Infinite Empire is the reason there are so many different races in Star Wars
And it was all because the Kwa didnt realize how evil the Rakata would become lol
Supposedly dirge is considered canon BUT just barely to the point where Disney could easily Retcon the character because they don’t like hyper violent characters apparently, and want to add princesses, queens, and comedy to everything.
great stuff! you’re quality of work is consistently fantastic
When I heard the name from Dagan, I knew I had heard that name before, then I thought of how Durge was a Gen’Dai. 😮.
Gen’dai vs yuuzhan vong would be dope
This is such a cool concept of alien
I want to see a Mandalorian and a Gendai teaming up like a symbiote.
Their a comic war of the bounty hunter art cover durge and Boba fett
To help metalore, the term is call convergence evolution! When two separate species of different DNA Identities, evolve the same evolutionary survival traits based on the environment/habitat.
Thanks yeah I should use that term and explain, but also the celestial and rakata were like ancient alien theory went around and spreading versions of themselves in their image
At around 7 minutes, there's a sith officer who sounds like Loghain.
Need more SWTOR stuff.
hoping on some character complete life this year
@@MetaNerdzLore ok
Imagine the republic use this species for the clone army
Gen'Dai are basically highly evolved Octopus
The galaxy can be very happy that most of them are friendly lol
I cant wait for your history of Durge video
ho..my journalist ass is oddly impressed by the use of "if it bleeds it leads"
Great job! Loved the vid, very well researched!
I’m starting to think that my initial suspicions were true. That there’s not enough lore about the rishii to make a video.
the new Disney star wars added Durge to the Doctor Aphra comics.
Your voice like like butter on newly warmed bread.
Love your vids fellow nerd.
Gen'Dai are brutal in their own right. A Gen'Dai with Force Sensitivity would be just as OP.
This would be the species I would pick to be in Star wars universe as a bounty hunter or one of the few species I pick to be a jedi. It really upsets me how Canon version of gen'dai was nerfed example like rayvis shouldn't have been taken down that fast with just that last lightsaber stike that i think took head off but hell durge was a beast in clone wars cartoon he survived being exploded from the inside if you could survive that then rayvis should have survived the last strike he took
So they’re kinda like Hunters from halo but harder to kill
I knew is just a manner of time until you make a video on the gen'dai
I love this Chanel so dearly
Ravis isnt done yet change my mind. "Warriors death" "Right" ....
Hot take; Rayvis should have had an Australian accent so that Cal can ask what he was to which Rayvis would reply "Gen'dai mate"
Thank you these where my favorite race in star wars😊
Star Wars meets the Halo Hunters to an extent
Honestly, even during the era of the Old Republic, the Gen'Dai got SCREWED.
If the boss battle with Rayvis is anything to go by, they've toned down on their "over the topness" or at the very least made them significantly less powerful then how Durge was portrayed in the 2d Clone Wars series.
The 2003 Clone Wars were over-the-top cartoon in general.
What if a piece of Durge survived and actually was the little alien they found in the 2017 movie LIFE? (Thats what i always thought. Or how awesome would hav it been that the movie was a prequel forbthe venom movie?) In my book that alien will always b Durge or proto-form Venom.
The Ganda bounty hunter was killed by Anakin Skywalker, but they read conned his death, and in the 2018 or 2020 Darth Vader comic series it was shown that dirge was attacking Dr. Afra and her companion which begs the question did dirge die on that day aboard the escape pod, or the heat escape, and survive, somehow will being heavily damaged
The Gen'dai sure is a strange species. I kinda want the strength they have.
Durge was relentless.
so impressive aaand this is why i love star wars!
The Gen'dai remind me a little of the Krogan from Mass Effect
Casual meta nerdz W
Keep up the good work.
its a bunch of snakes IN A SHIRT!
Fun Fact:Star Wars species with longest lifespan is Croke Over 20,000 years and shortest lifespan species is Devlikk living 9 to 10 years.
I Was shocked to see 1 in jedi servivor
Does anyone know what the BGM music is? I love it but Shazam isn't working.
in my opion one of the coolest species in all of star wars a natural wace of super soilders on par with the greatest artifical ones like spartans and space marines i mean imagine what it would be like for normal people in the star wars world to see jedi and sith get thrown around like ragdolls by these dudes.
i really don’t think Rayvis is dead honestly. i think he’ll be back
I think Cal assumed that cutting his head off would kill him but because his brain is still intact / unharmed, he will come back as an antihero in the next game.
Reminds me a lot of the Lekgolo from Halo
They remind me of the "Hunters" from Halo
Can you do a video on the T'surr species or the giant Mandallians.
Honestly, Survivor's depiction is is probably how Gen'dai "really are" in the SW universe. Let's admit it, CW was a hyberbole in almost every aspect.
I really like how a single lightsaber swing down the center could finish him off. In order to form a mind, Gen'dai needs to form a type of brain. Memory and personality are recorded within it's structure. So when you destroy it, that info making up (a big part of) the individual gets deleted. It may regrow, but not the exact same way, so the person at least dies (even if the organism may endure).
I really like the idea of it coming back as a different form/personality, it would make them slightly less menacing but then again it’s quite boring having an almost un-killable species. This way you could see the same organism become truly evil or vice versa in its next ‘life’. Unfortunately I can’t see anyone at Star Wars atm making that good decision🤣
So they are the star wars Lekgolo lmao
Star wars answer to DC's Lobo
I'm still sad with the number of okay, bur minor character figs they've made, that Black Series never kicked out a General Durge 6"+ model. We got reprints of Windu and Kenobi, just wearing their "armored robes" instead, and a good recolor of Grievous, but not Durge. He's a rare "premium/deluxe figure" (read: bigger and more expensive) that I'd actually be happy to pay the money for. The Gen'dai are an awesome and fun species; something I'm sad we haven't seen more of, but also glad, as they are so above everything else I'd get bored of the sixth unstoppable juggernaut.
Maybe Durge will show up in Ashoka or Mando Season 4.
Reminds me of the lekgolo aka hunters in halo
My favorite species cause of durge
Ravis still lives!
How'd Durge fare against Wolverine or Hulk ???
Yo nice Gonks bro
Hey thanks wasn't sure if people could see. We have a huge one too used to cosplay in
Like the Lekgolo of Halo.
Rayvis reminds me of Vilgax from Ben 10
Anyone know why Rayvis was so much easier to kill than Durge?
In all honesty, I believe that Rayvis isn't really dead and that he might make a surprise appearance in the third game
@@YEY0806 Agreed. They made it look like the Ninth Sister had perished when Cal force pushed her off the tree tops in Kyshiik (Fallen Order ) but she ended up confronting Cal at the beginning of Jedi Survivor where she was defeated for good. Rayvis could be a boss in the third game, maybe Cal will find a way to finish him off for good...who knows?
@Awesome Sauce especially because his a Gen-di, there is just no way he would die so easily unless he was thrown in a star or jet thrusters
Make Durge canon again
Gen'dai already in canon first appearance in Dr alpha comic ( 2020) also Rayvis in Jedi survivor
Is it possible to marry and mate with a gen'dai 😂?
YESSSS bro thank you for this video !!!!
Wish for video about Earth 🌎🌍 made firearms are better than Star Wars blasters?
They are called slug throwers in star wars and would depend on the situation. Kinda like asking if those geinosis guns where better than blasters.
Slug throwers were best against lightsabers. But blasters had little reason to reload, or what actually happens outside of video games.
Side note: You are adorable! :P
Wow & literally first 🥇
Love the alien videos! Could you please do one on Whiphids (my favorite species)?
Gen'dai get it? Genndy!
How does “philosophical species” and revenge killings equal out?
🙄🤦♂️⚰️
I mean we do both of those things, i think the gen'daii are entitled to a little variation in behavior
@@GreaterGrievobeast55 Yeah, i dig that.
I was just trying to be sarcastic. 😅🍻
