    Actually, not all mantis species practice sexual cannibalism and the ones who do only do it when they're hungry. The idea that all female mantises eat their mates is a myth.

    Also there are some mantis species that prepare a meal for the female before the sex... The same thing can also be seen among the spiders, who prepare a cocoon with a meal for the female. And some species of spiders who do empty cocoons gor that. Yeah, fake meal packages. They flee right after the sex, leaving the female to unwrap the gift. Or and empty gift. Yeah...

    Thanks for commenting! I get rather tired from the constant 'watch out she's gonna eat your head!' thing, so it was a breath of fresh air to see this.
